Newsletter No. 11, April 2010

Dear reader

Spring has come and now we are in the mood to spend the first warm days outside. Walk along the sea, look for showing buds and soak up the sun. Maybe spring also awakes your in-terest for other countries and cultures. Not only exciting workcamps in Switzerland and abroad are waiting for you but as well as longterm volunteering placements or a voluntary engage-ment for our association. Get into the workcamp world.

Program 2010

There it is - the workcamp program 2010. More than 2000 social, cultural or ecological projects are waiting for motivated volunteers. Also longterm volunteering projects are offered. A large choice of exciting and interesting projects, be it in Switzerland, in Europe or overseas.

Dear volunteer, please find the projects in our search engine online. By appropriate criterias e.g. countries, period or type of projects you can limit the amount of projects. This makes your search easier for you. Highlights will be announced at our website (www.workcamp.ch).

Beside a digital version, you can order the whole program on cd. Projects are organised by topic and country. Costs will be 15 Swiss Franc: info@workcamp.ch or 043 317 19 30.

Voluntary work for our association

Are you proactive, creative and motivated to do voluntary work in your spare time? Would you like to contribute your knowledge and experiences as board member? As part of our team we can guarantee exciting and a variety of tasks, experiences in extra-school youth work, contact to people from all over the world and a new challenge that sticks out in your cv.

Since we are a very small association, we are glad about any support. Experiences in associa-tion works are preferred but not essential.

We are glad about your help, as the planning for the upcoming season has already started. Interested? Please contact our president Andreas Schneider, andreas.schneider@workcamp.ch.

Campleader wanted

As always we are looking for campleader and co-leader for the Swiss projects. Two motivated and responsible volunteers, who do not only want to work but also like to lead the group are wanted. A challenge which requires knowledge in English, sensitivity for different cultures, en-durance as well as assertiveness. If you are interested please contact Simone Thommen Awe, simone.thommen@workcamp.ch.

Creative workcamp in Sicily

Already for the fifth time the camp "Clown Heart Tour" takes place in east Sicily. Clowns from all over the world meet here to visit local hospitals, psychiatries and orphanages to cheer peo-ple up. For the first time, international volunteers will be helping. In the run-up to the tour an introduction on the art of acting like a clown will be given. Volunteers will learn how to touch and cheer up people.

The schedule is quite tight, but nevertheless excursions and meetings within the groups are possible. Volunteers will be accommodated in a youth center and will prepare meals by them-selves. You have to write a motivation letter and send a picture with smiling face.

Period: 11th August to 23rd August 2010

Workcamp in Nizhniy Novgorod, Russia

Why always France or Italy? Also other countries as Russia offer an exciting choice of work-camps e.g. the kids camp in Nizhniy Novgorod. Volunteers will organise spare time activities and games for the kids, such as theater plays or sport activities. Another work will be teaching English. By doing all those activities together, kids will learn in an easy manner English.

Volunteers are asked to bring along songs, dances and games from their own country to teach them to the kids. Volunteers will be accommodated in a schoolhouse. Meals will be served in a canteen.

Period: 01st June to 21st June 2010
