Dear reader

Spring is marvellous it seems like summer. This makes you feel like travelling, discovering new adventures and new exciting places. Do you feel the same? – We want to wake you up from the winter with exciting Workcamps in Switzerland and abroad, with longer projects, campleader positions and maybe with the interesting work in our association. We were presenting our Swiss program in Armenia and meeting around 70 international partner organisations who were showing us their fantastic programmes.

 

Program 2011

There it is – the workcamp programme 2011. More than 2000 social, cultural or ecological projects are waiting for motivated volunteers. Also long-term volunteering projects are offered. A large choice of exciting and interesting projects, be it in Switzerland, in Europe or overseas.

The clever Volunteer finds the whole program in our search engine online. By appropriate criterias e.g. countries, period or type of projects you can limit the amount of projects. This makes your search easier for you. Highlights will be announced at our website (www.workcamp.ch).

Discount: If you apply for a workcamp between the 15th of April and the 15th of May, you profit from a discount of 50 francs on the participation fee. You will take part automatically on a lottery. The winner will participate in the workcamp for free.

Beside a digital version, you can order the whole program on cd. Projects are organised by topic and country. Costs will be 15 Swiss Franc: info@workcamp.ch or 043 317 19 30.

 

YOGA CAMP in Kerala India – yoga/ayurveda/education

The volunteers will participate in learning the Basics of Yoga and Ayurveda in these three weeks of the work camp. Everyday, there will be topics covered by a professional master (the person in charge of yoga and Ayurveda classes), which will be practiced by the volunteers. Yoga will be practiced daily in the mornings. Apart from this, volunteers will also help in conducting classes at a nearby school. The volunteers will support this local school which is in need of simple renovation work and interact with the children, teaching them basic English and Mathematics, Health and Hygiene awareness, environmental protection etc.
Accommodation: In a Guest house, with shared rooms. The accommodation can vary a lot in our camps from youth hostels, schools, huts to empty houses (and sometimes in tents). The accommodation will be simple but comfortable and clean, so be prepared to live a simple lifestyle during these three weeks.

Period: several workcamps (three weeks) between June and December 2011

Age: 18 plus– no age restriction

 

ARCHAELOGICAL TEMPLE in Greece on the island of Andros

The proposed action concerns recently discovered old pottery workshops of Andros in order to study conserve and reoperate these important historical places, making them attractive to locals, visitors and tourists. The work of the volunteer includes the following tasks: - cleaning up the workshops, under the supervision of archaeologists - drawing architectural plans of the workshops - constructing and placing informative signposts inside the workshops, as well as on the footpaths leading to them. Volunteers will be accommodated in a community building of the Municipality of Andros. A sleeping bag, a sheet and a carry mat, are necessary.

Period: 18th of July till 3rd of August 2011

Age: 18 plus – no age restriction

 

ISOLATED CAMP IN A MONASTRY ON AN ISLAND in Russia

Project takes place on the fantastic island of Valaam - one of the most picturesque places and beautiful monasteries in the Northwest of Russia. It is sometimes called "Mount Athos of the North". International volunteers will be integrated into a group of 20-30 Russian volunteers and will work, eat and live all together. We will help monks in harvesting and cleaning the fields, grass cutting, preparing firewood and working in the garden. The Accommodation is in the dormitory (4-20 persons per room). The monastery provides beds with blankets, pillows etc. There is only cold water in the dormitory, shower is available twice a week.

Period: 14th of August till 4th of September 2011

Cultural Exchange – Campleader wanted

As always we are looking for campleader and co-leader for the Swiss projects. Two motivated and responsible volunteers, who do not only want to work but also like to lead the group are wanted. A challenge which requires knowledge in English, sensitivity for different cultures, endurance as well as assertiveness. Beside board and lodging, you will receive a pocket money of 100 francs per week, a voucher for a workcamp in Switzerland or abroad and a campleader certificate. General Assembly 2011

On the 8th of April 2011 the General Assembly of Workcamp Switzerland took place in the building of the association « three triangles ». The branch office was having a look at the year 2010, the annual report, the annual accounts and was talking about the season 2011. The old board members got reselected from the members of the general assembly and we could present three new board members. The new selected people are : Philipp Weber (department public relation and marketing), Hans Thommen (financial department) und Hanspeter Buechel (department for IT). The branch office talked about the international meeting with the partner organisation in Armenia and showed some pictures. A slide show about the workcamps from last year and an aperitif were making the evening more successful.
